Last Sunday at 4.30pm over 40 people returned to our church to pray for Ukraine. Thank you for that amazing response.
This Sunday we wish to give everyone the chance to learn a little more about the way Baptists in Ukraine and Poland, Hungary and Slovakia are working tirelessly and sacrificially to show God’s love to the 10s of thousands of refugees who need help.
At the end of our main service there will be a mini-break, followed immediately by 15 minutes to learn and pray.
PLEASE PLAN TO STAY FOR THIS EXTRA TIME. It is a small sacrifice compared with the cost to Ukranians and those helping them in Europe. Our prayer is vital for all, including Russians. God chooses to use this ‘weak’ tool to confound the mighty and change the world.
If people wish to stay longer to pray in church or the lounge they will, of course be able to do so.
Refreshments will be available in the JRH about 11.50.
You may find it helpful to look at the attached Power Point and to read Psalm 46; Lamentations 3: 1 – 10, 19 – 27; Acts 4: 24 – 31; Revelation 22: 1 – 5.
Thank you so much for getting involved. With my Christian friendship

Hi Everyone,
Regrettably our Carols by Candlelight service on Sunday 19th evening has had to be cancelled.
A MESSAGE FROM OUR MINISTER
The Government advise us to be careful about socialising and prioritise who we meet with so we can spend time with our closest family members over Christmas. Good advice. This is one reason why we have sadly and reluctantly cancelled our Carols by Candlelight Service this Sunday evening.
But as Christians we have another priority – we are commissioned by Jesus to tell the world he is our Saviour and can be theirs!
So, to help you fulfil this priority we have produced a short version of the service we had planned. We encourage you to enjoy this service with your family (and friends if you are meeting them) over Christmas. Set up your own candles, relax and join in.
We are also giving you access to a short message I produced for Winstanley with the Christmas message for them. This too can be used to share the truth that Jesus is the world’s Saviour.
Both these video links are below.
Using these videos can help us fulfil God’s priority, even as we seek to be safe and enjoy time with the people closest too us.
We prayerfully hope these will enhance your Christmas together.
But remember we intend to run all our other services– at this point in time
An Alternative Carol service.

To God’s Spirit-empowered people
Dear friends,
Do you remember?
For many years before we had ever heard of ‘Coronavirus’ our News Sheet used to look rather different - especially this page!
It used to tell us who the preacher was and what was their topic. It also listed the activities taking place in and around our church. This helpful information enabled us to share fully in the life of our church, avoid clashes over rooms and meant we could pray for our life together. As we are now seeing most aspects of our life together running again (including several house groups), we are returning to this presentation.
Dawn collated all this information, as well as the rest of the news Sheet and printed it for us. We are returning to this format from Sunday 26th September. We are all really grateful to Dawn for doing this for us.
Please remember
This will only work if you remember to let Dawn know what is going on. So please ensure that you tell Dawn by the latest 5pm on the Wednesday prior to the Sunday. Her email address is
Please remember too…
Keep on praying for God to show us what our next steps should be concerning the ministerial vacancy here. Go on using the prayer leaflet which explains the situation and provides personal prayer points. Note especially Prayer Together on Saturday 25th September 10.30 -12.30 (when you can come and go as your time allows). Also, the
Special Church Meeting 7.30pm Wednesday September 29th.

Hi Everyone,
Welcome to our Services for Sunday morning 19th September 2021.
Please make the most of this weekend’s resources.
The News Sheet will change a little next week. This weeks explains how and why we need your help.
Derek has produced a Bible Study to enrich the service which Marlene Brooker will lead, based on John 14: 1 – 14.
There is also a short Power Point to help you pray for the Ministerial Vacancy. This provided the framework for our prayer times together. So, if you were unable to join any of these, please use this to guide your prayers – maybe in your home group.
We have also been invited by Holy Apostle’s to join a Praise Party on Saturday 25th September – a poster with the details is also attached.
Sunday 26th is our HARVEST THANKSGIVING SERVICE. Please bring your gifts -of appropriate food stuffs or use the envelopes available on Sunday to make a financial contribution. All of this will go to help Food Share which helps those who may go hungry without our help. We hope to restart tea and coffee after the service in the Top Kitchen
Thank you all for your commitment over the last 18 months during the Pandemic. Our preacher is Roger Whittaker and the children will also be involved.

To God’s Spirit-empowered people
Dear friends,
GO0D THINGS ARE HAPPENING
There are so many things around us, near and far, that can make us sad and anxious. From global issues, like climate change, to international issues like the devastating impact of the Taliban taking over Afghanistan, to national issues like mounting hospital admissions and delays to treatment, through to local issue, like the accident last week when a child was knocked over by a car near to our church. It is good to remind ourselves that there is ‘good news’ as well. Here is some of that!
This past week many new (old!) activities in our church re-started. These included Junior Church on Sunday, Modellers Club on Monday, Warm Welcome on Tuesday with many parents, carers and children and a great atmosphere, The Youth Club on Wednesday with 12 young people, and Friends on Thursdays. We are not restarting these because we have always done so, and we are not always running them exactly the same way. We offer these groups to show Jesus love to our community and one another and because they contribute to the mission of our church. Because of this we need to pray for all who give their time, as well as for all who come that through their enjoyment they can discover the joy that Jesus alone can bring.
PRAY IN THE SPIRIT ON EVERY OCCASION
As a church community we have been faced with a dilemma about God’s plans for the next minister here. We were faced with 3 possible suitable ministers but lacked clarity about our next step. The deacons wisely proposed that we spend September praying for God’s guidance and direction. We have already started but for the next two weeks there is a greater focus. So please make use of the leaflet which explains the situation, details opportunities to pray together and provides personal prayer points too.
COMMUNION & NEW MEMBERS
This Sunday we gather around the Lord’s Table to remember his greatest act of love, dying for us! We also hope to formally welcome people who have become members during Covid. So please be there if you can!
In Christian friendship

Hi Everyone,
Welcome to our Services for Sunday morning 12th September 2021.
This weekend’s resources are a bumper issue! You won’t necessarily need all of them BUT the News Sheet is necessary for EVERYONE. The Prayer Leaflet is also vital – it contains information about potential new ministers, information about our corporate prayer opportunities (please join at least one of these) and also a daily prayer guide for personal use. So, if possible, print these off.
The Bible Study is by Tony Richard as Derek and Pauline have been on holiday.
As for the rest, please select which are helpful. As usual, the Communion A5 leaflet is for those who are unable to be with us for Sunday morning’s service.
After next weekend’s resources the News Sheet will be changing – so do watch out for this.
Thank you for sharing fully in the life of our community.

To God’s Spirit-empowered people
Dear friends,
IMPORTANT NEWS – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Thank you to all who attended last Sunday’s service or watched the recordings and fed your responses back to us. The Deacons have decided that as the situation is far from clear, the right next step for us is to call for a month of prayer about the future ministry. At the moment we are waiting on Andy to tell us if he wishes to accept the invitation to come on a “View Preach“. We will ask him to let us know his decision by September 24th. If Andy no longer wishes to proceed with us, we will then consider inviting John who came last Sunday or possibly another person who has expressed interest in us. The deacons will have a special meeting on Monday September 27th and we will hold a Special Church meeting on Wednesday 29th at 7.30pm. Please reserve this date.
MORE IMPORTANT NEWS!
This Sunday please be ready for more changes! Junior Church is moving back to a pre-lockdown pattern. So, we will be all together in church for the first 20minutes. Then they will go to classes. They should be collected by parents after the service from the JRH. This means the JRH will not be available as an overflow for the service. We will provide this in the ‘Top Kitchen’. In Church, please wear your mask as you come in and go out. If you wish, remove your mask during the service. BUT IF YOU JOIN IN THE SINGING, PLEASE WEAR YOUR MASK (this is the most risky process for spreading the disease, hence we are encouraging masks to minimise the risks). We are hoping to encourage as many as possible to attend our services now – including those who have stayed away because of the requirement to wear masks throughout the service.
NEXT SUNDAY
Our morning service will be a communion service as we conclude our exploration of what it means to ‘love one another as Jesus loves us.’
With my thanks for your co-operation as we make these adjustments.
David Spriggs
Hi Everyone,
Welcome to our Services for Sunday morning 5th September 2021.
As always the News Sheet provides vital information about developments in seeking for our new minister plus changes to arrangements for our services (we are returning to more normal ‘Junior Church’ and the ‘overflow will no longer be in the JRH but the Top Kitchen), and modifying the wearing of masks. Please note these carefully and share the information with others who are likely to come to church services.
Attached are the News Sheet, a Bible Study (from Tony Richard – Derek is on holiday) and the Power Point for the service.
Our service on September 12th will include communion together.
The video link will be sent out early next week
Thank you for making good use of these resources.

This week there are less resources than usual. We will send the Power Point of the service with the video link, early next week.
Please note this will not be available by the website, for reasons of confidentiality
There is no Bible Study (as we have a visiting preacher), but there is a sheet with suggestions as to how to allow God to make us more loving (prayer Guide for love).
As always there is the News Sheet. With many changes in our life together, it is even more important than ever to read and note what is happening.

Distressing Times
This week we have all been shocked by the terrible scenes from Afghanistan. How desperate people must be to cling to an aeroplane as it takes off! So, I encourage you to uphold in your prayers all the people of Afghanistan, pray for the Taliban’s religious/political leaders as well as their military personnel that they may honour the pledges they have given, and plead before God for the protection of Christian leaders and ordinary believers who are in very vulnerable positions. Also, all Christian organisations working there.
Exciting times
We have been thrilled to see the response to our Family Craft week. We thank God for excellent numbers. Those who attended have been truly appreciative and involved in the crafts, the singing, the stories AND the refreshments. A big thank you to Maz and her amazing team of helpers.
Next Sunday
is another special time. We have a minister visiting us who (If the relationship with Andy does not progress) is another possible one for us. The deacons have spoken to him on zoom and found him committed, sensitive, and someone who could fit in well with our community.
SO PLEASE PRAY & BE THERE FOR THE SERVICE IF POSSIBLE IF NOT WATCH ON ZOOM LATER
(because of confidentiality, the link for this will only be available via our email not on the website.) The deacons will be meeting him in person after the service. If you have questions you would like us to put to him, please let Kathryn know by NEXT WEDNESDAY
This Sunday, if you wish to sit with your friends (and not socially distance) please sit in the back pews on the right-hand side (as you look towards the front of the church). If you want to maintain social distance, then avoid these seats! Thank you.
With my Christian greetings

Hi Everyone,
Welcome to our Services for Sunday morning 15th August 2021.
Please find your spiritual provisions for this Sunday and the coming week below. We pray they help you follow Christ more fully.
In addition to the News Sheet (so vital for keeping up with changes within our Sunday services and topics to pray for - especially this week the Craft Week, running weekday mornings) there is Derek’s challenging Bible Study and the Power Point to guide you through the service – either for Sunday itself or as you watch the recording. If you are a family with children, please make use of the JRH where there are activity packs for the children to keep everyone engaged.
On Sunday morning, we now have Lindsey the musicians and singers leading some of our songs – another step towards freedom and fulfilment in our worship together.
The link to the service will be sent out later. Do remember to pray for David Sibson as he spends many hours to enable us, as well as those who don’t have wifi and so receive a DVD of the service, to engage with our worship time.
Next Sunday (22nd August) we will have communion within the service.

Let love be sincere (Romans 12:9)
A few weeks ago, I joined a zoom meeting organised by The East Midlands Christian Aid reps.
I was so impressed by what I heard and saw that I want to share some of what I learnt with you all this Sunday. As I have been preparing for this Sunday I realised that the work of Christian Aid is spot on! It is part of what it means to love, as Christian people. Just as God’s love knows no limits, in terms of race, geography or social class, so ours needs to be the same. When Jesus saw a hungry crowd, he didn’t say, ‘please don’t distract me from my mission’ he realised feeding them was part of his mission and got his disciples involved in the task. James also reminds us, that loving our neighbours is ‘The Royal Law’! It is the fundamental principle in God’s Kingdom.
So, what impressed me? Two very different aspects! The first was the creativity and energy that people across the East Midlands had shown in order to help raise funds for Christian Aid. The second was the breadth and depth of the work that Christian Aid undertakes in order to ‘love our neighbours’ around the world. It is thrilling to see what God can do today with the equivalent of our ‘loaves and fishes’.
I hope you’ll catch some of my excitement through Sunday’s service.
Singing to God’s glory It was also wonderful to be in our service last week and to hear us actually singing our praise to God. I can’t wait to do so again. And, of course, we are now freer to mingle and talk after the service.
Next Sunday Christine Cook will be leading our service as she takes us through a very famous passage in Ecclesiastes chapter 3.
May God keep us and bless us through this summer season

Greetings to you all,
Dedication
Last Sunday was a great service of celebration as we heard the faith stories of Jessica and Ben and then witnessed their baptisms.
This Sunday we will share in another celebration – that of the thanksgiving of Amini and Adeline for the gift of their new son. Now, of course, not so new. Like Jessica they have been patiently waiting for the time when they can publicly thank God for his safe arrival and then commit themselves, along with the church ,to bring Ishara up in a Christian home. We call this a Service of Dedication. Unlike a ‘Christening’ it isn’t thought of as the moment a child becomes a ‘Christian’ but a time for us all to commit to create the context where later on the chid can feely accept Jesus Christ personally, freely and in an informed way as their Lord and Saviour.
Moving on? As a church we are committed to putting other people’s interests before our own – it’s what love requires of us! For the foreseeable future we will continue to sanitise hands on arrival; pews and ‘touching points’ will be dealt with by our cleaning teams. We ask you all (unless you are exempt) to wear a mask, particularly on arrival and departure. We are now free to sing, but the Baptist Union (and the government) strongly advise that we should do so while still wearing a mask. You can congregate outside to talk but please be aware of others and allow good space for them to pass you.
The Church meeting has decided that from the
1st August our service will start at 10.30am.
During the summer there will be no special provision for ‘junior church’ but families can go to the JRH, activity packs will be provided and the service relayed there.
Thank you for being flexible and sensitive as we seek to move forward in our worship and witness.
With my Christian greetings
David Spriggs.
Hi Everyone,
Welcome to our Service for Sunday morning 25th July 2021.
Until we can share fully in church services, it is important that we find ways to enrich our discipleship so we can continue to please God and walk in his ways, both individually and as a church.
This is why we seek to provide a range of resources both for those who get to church and those who can’t – perhaps because you’re on holiday or ill or anxious about being with many people or struggling to get out.
Please try and use whatever is helpful.
As usual there is Derek’s Bible Study and David’s Power Point to guide us through the service (You’ll see from this we have a Dedication Service).
Extra’s this week include a prayer meditation on the verse David will preach and a copy of the Prayer’s used by the Wednesday Group. Maybe you can join in by using this at some point during the week. We believe that as we soak Braunstone in prayer God will be able to change things for the better. You can find the Bible passage for this week on the News Sheet. There is a lot of other significant information here.
The video link to this Sunday's service will posted as soon as it is available.

To God’s Spirit-empowered people
Greetings to you all,
“Believe and be baptised!”
For Baptists the New Testament couldn’t be clearer. We have the example of Jesus, who although he was sinless chose to be baptised to ‘fulfil all righteousness’, the command of Jesus to make disciples and baptise them and the example of the first Christians after Pentecost. Whenever people became Christian believers they were baptised to show and to seal their new-found faith. In addition to the stories, there are the words, such as Peter’s sermon on the Day of Pentecost or Paul’ s teaching which link baptism to becoming a Christian.
A baptismal service then is always a ‘high day’ in the life of our church. This Sunday we have two people following the command of Jesus and acknowledging their commitment to Jesus by being baptised. So please come along to share in this service. It is a celebration of the grace of God and the witness and ministry of the church over many years.
Moving on? At this point in time we are still not sure exactly what the regulations will be for Sunday 23rd. However, as a church we are committed to putting other people’s interests before our own. So, we intend to balance the need for some people to be protected by us all and for others to enjoy more freedom in worship. Please then be ready for the way we are asked to behave in our services to change over time. But for the foreseeable future we will continue to sanitise hands on arrival and pews and ‘touching points’ will be dealt with by our cleaning teams.
The Church meeting has decided that from the
1st August our service will start at 10.30am.

Greetings to you all,
“Shining like Stars in a dark sky”
Is there light at the end of the tunnel? According to the Government we will all be released from most Pandemic restrictions on 19th July! With the fierce-some rise in daily cases, it is understandable that there is much debate about exactly what is right and also, for some, much anxiety about the impact on us all, especially those who remain vulnerable. Given the confusion we are still called to ‘Shine like stars’
As a church then we need to be sensitive to one another’s needs and feelings, so the deacons will be working on a set of measures that will give people security and also allow for those who wish to enjoy more freedoms in our worship. Details will follow in next week’s News Sheet.
Until then somethings to look forward to.
***Please don’t miss the Dupree’s visit this Sunday***
We will learn so much about the way God works and enables his people to shine in very difficult circumstances. It will encourage us and encourage us to support them and their people in our prayers
We will be changing the Junior Church after this Sunday
***Sunday 18th July – a baptismal service (at last!)***
***Sunday 25th July – a dedication service***
for Amini, Adeline and family as they present Ishara.
Thank you for continuing our journey with God

Loved by God; loving others for God
My dear Christian friends
This year’s motto text
This month we are returning to go a bit deeper with our motto text for the year. These are powerful words of Jesus ‘My commandment is this:
Love one another as I have loved you.’
but we are called to live lives of love and not just talk about it.
We are looking at 1 Corinthians 13, a most famous passage in the Bible; one of the greatest love poems ever written. But this ‘Christian’ love is not like any other kind of love, as Paul explains and as we shall discover. We can only love like Jesus if first we allow ourselves to be loved by Jesus. So, please join us to find out more and to grow in love
.
The Deacon’s “away day”
Next Saturday the deacons are taking time out to be together.
Our main topic will be how we can be a more ‘inclusive church’. Another way of putting this is how can we show God’s love to everyone who comes to us, no matter what their past, no matter what their views, no matter what challenges they live with?
So please pray for us that God may be with us and reveal his purposes as he has in the past.
Next year’s motto text
We are also now in the second half of the year! Yes, Christmas is coming!! So, we will soon be seeking God to discern what our motto text for next year should be.
PLEASE LET KATHRYN, MYSELF OR ANY OF THE DEACONS
know what comes to your mind.
Details of God’s Harvesters session 4 are in the box above.
With my thanks to you all, for all your love

Hi Everyone
Welcome to our service for Sunday morning 27th June 2021
To God’s Spirit-empowered people
Greetings to you all,
How’s your prayer life?
One of the marks of the early church was its prayer. Even before those young Christians received the Holy Spirit we read,
‘They all joined together constantly in prayer…’ (Acts 1: 14)
and after the Day of Pentecost it is a recurring theme. Peter was praying when he had his vision that led him to become open towards gentiles. Cornelius was praying when the angelic visit appeared to him. Paul was praying as soon as he met Jesus and was blinded temporarily.
Jesus told parables to encourage us to pray as well as giving us a prayer to guide us that we call ‘The Lord’s Prayer’ (Luke 11: 1 - 10)
But prayer can be draining and demanding and doesn’t always give us the results we long for. So, this week I encourage us all to keep on praying. Please don’t allow the demands of life under Covid restrictions to deflect us from our call to be a praying people. Please pray in your home groups and when you phone each other.
Please ensure that if you are part of the Prayer chain that you pray regularly for those who request prayer. If you or people you know can benefit from prayer, do contact Scott Turner. I was so grateful for your prayers this week.
Please also pray especially for friends and family we long to see becoming Christians. This is part of Jill’s challenge for us this week in
God’s Harvesters course – session 3 .

Greetings to you all,
Freedom Day – DELAYED!
Many people are struggling with the announcement that the extra freedoms from Covid restrictions we anticipated for Monday are being delayed for a further 4 weeks. Please remember in your prayers those whose wedding plans have been disrupted and those with funerals to plan are also affected. We are conscious too of the impact of this on travel, music venues, hospitality and theatres etc. and we should be praying for all those whose health and businesses are being damaged.
In church we too are also still limited by the regulations and it is tiresome and disruptive (I can’t wait to see your faces and to sing God’s praises!), so please encourage one another during this extra month of delay.
One of our encouragements is the hope we have.
As Christians, we believe that one day Jesus will ‘return’ and the whole of creation will be released from its decay and be ‘brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God’.
I’m sure that I don’t need to remind you that although this ‘Freedom Day’ may be delayed, it has not been cancelled! (2 Peter 3: 8 – 14)
As we wait and pray we are also called to share the good news of Jesus. So, I encourage you to benefit from Jill’s
God’s Harvesters course – session 2.
With my thanks to you all

Greetings to you,
This Sunday we are thinking about the amazing events which led to Cornelius (A Roman Centurion) garrisoned in Caesarea (Gentile territory) and his household becoming believers and being baptised.
The command of Jesus was being fulfilled to take the Good News of Jesus to all the world.
This amazing event, supercharged by the activity of the Holy Spirit, would soon lead to trouble among the established Christians!
On Wednesday the Special Church Meeting unanimously agreed to invite Andy Scholes on a view preach (probably 1st August). Please continue to pray for Andy as he seeks God’s confirmation about whether to accept our invitation.
On Sunday, within our service,
we will recognise Scott Turner as our part time Youth Leader. Initially this is for one year only. We Praise God for preparing Scott for this role and for his willingness to serve us in this way. We also praise God for the growth in our children’s and youth work which makes this necessary. Please continue to pray for Scott and our young people.
Both of these ‘events’ could lead us to share the Good news of Jesus more widely. But each of us has a part to play too. That’s why we are re-running Jill’s God’s Harvesters course.

So, please be prepared for godly trouble. Whenever God is at work the enemy will seek to disrupt and discourage us.

Greetings to you,
It usually takes a lot longer to prepare a meal than to eat it! And that’s only the work in the kitchen.
Add on all the time it has taken to grow the crops and the meat. Then there’s all the time developing the seeds and breeding the animals. Oh, and lots of decades designing, producing and selling the equipment both for the fields and the kitchen. Of course, let’s not forget the production of all the energy to produce all of this…
Once you stop and think the 30 minutes eating and enjoying our meal has been a long while in getting ready.
We sometimes forget that God has been at work not only for years and decades but for centuries to bring us to the point in our church life where we now are.
Look at the foundation stones in the vestibule
You will see that the building where we now worship began 60 years ago. But the foundations God laid go back to Jesus (1 Corinthians 3:11) and, indeed millennia before.
So please make the most of and enjoy every aspect of our church life. But please take a moment to thank God for all his benefits and then ensure you contribute to the future.
Especially this week, let the deacons know your thoughts about Andy Scholes and attend the zoom Special Church meeting to consider whether we should invite him on a View Preach.
This is on Wednesday at 7.30pm (details above)
(open to everyone; only members can vote)

Hi Everyone
Welcome to our service for Sunday morning 6th June 2021
Welcome to this week’s resources – the theme for Sunday is about sharing the Good News of Jesus. This develops from last Sunday and is appropriate as we are in the Pentecost period when the disciples began to fulfil the commission of Jesus to take the Good news into all the world. Greetings to you,
Bumps in the road
If you drive a car, or even cycle, you will be aware of the increasing number of bumps in the road. They are a nuisance and can be dangerous. They certainly cause damage! Sometimes they are put there deliberately to slow us down, often they just appear as the surface breaks up. This week we experienced another bump in the road, as the government announced further restrictions on Leicester. We thought we might have to close the church again to comply with the directives. But fortunately, this is not the case.
So please come along on Sunday both for church at 10am and then at 11 for Junior Church.
This ‘bump’ does remind us all to watch out and maintain all the Covid regulations about sanitising hands, wearing masks (unless exempt) and social distancing.
Please remember to order your plants from Sue Jenkins (she has lots available) and your Hostas from Derek.
Thank you for all who have given to Christian Aid. There are some interesting opportunities to discover more about its work starting on Tuesday 15th June. So please look out for more details.
With my Christian greetings.

PS Please keep praying for Andy Scholes and let the deacons know your reflections about his visit.

Greetings to you,
So at last….. Sunday May 23rd at 10am
For many weeks we have been looking forward to this Sunday. Some of us have met Andy on zoom, many of us have listened to his recorded service a few weeks ago. Today we all have the opportunity to worship with him as he leads our worship and preaches for us.
Please pray that
Andy will know God’s guidance as he prepares his service
He will feel completely at home with us
The question time at 12 will help us understand one another well
God will guide us all as to whether it is right to take the next step together which will be to invite Andy for a ‘View Preach’ Sunday.
PLEASE BOOK YOUR PLACE FOR THE 12 noon session
By filling in the sheet or a form in church or phoning, texting or emailing Paul and Marion Jones.
There is a limit of 50 places

Afterwards, share your prayerful reflections and thoughts with any of the deacons. They will take your comments into account when they meet on Wednesday 2nd June. The deacons will then offer a recommendation to the church meeting. Everyone will also have the opportunity to share their responses at the Special church meeting on the 9th June 7.30pm.

Greetings to you,
Being God’s resurrection people is a tremendous privilege. Of course, it means we have a hope given to us both by the words and resurrection life of Jesus that death has been defeated. When we die we will be with him to share an eternity of dynamic love.
It also means that we are called to live NOW with ‘resurrection qualities. We are set free from sin and self-centredness and are empowered to live the Jesus way right now – we are called to live in newness of life – his life. This requires our co-operation and effort!
It means our character can be reshaped from within and our attitudes and behaviours will change too. This will show itself in how we see and care for other people, in family, work, school, neighbours and casual meetings. It also affects our attitudes towards our church.
As we re-open our church’s life, please consider what part you can play. Each of us has a contribution to make, by regular attendance at services, prayer, helping to steward (please contact Alan and Pauline Robinson if you can help us here – 07904 354156) , cleaning the premises and eventually serve tea and coffee, etc! Above all we need those whom God is calling to help with our children’s and youth work. This requires prioritising God’s business over our personal preferences. But that is at the heart of living as resurrection people.
Together we can move forward to help others know this resurrection life.
With my Christian greetings. David Spriggs

“The saints” – People with a divine purpose
Dear Christian friends,
Even if your Easter Eggs have all gone, please don’t despair. The good news is that Easter continues. Jesus is alive and so is his church!
For the next few weeks we will be exploring what the “Good news” means for us and for people everywhere.
Thank you to all those who came to church to celebrate Easter together last Sunday and made it such a wonderful service of praise.
EASTER SUNDAY
There were about 100 people (60 in church and 40 in the JRH), including many family groups with children. We were delighted to celebrate Christ’ resurrection with the help of a message from Andy and a great children’s video re-telling the Easter story through the eyes of three trees!
It was also great to see one another and, where necessary, guess who was behind the mask! Next year we look forward to our breakfast and communion together!
This Sunday (11th April) we will NOT BE OPENING
Please let everyone you can think of know this.
The Good News is that from the following Sunday 18th April, we will be re-opening
10 – 10.45 am - worship in the church
11 -12 noon Junior church together in the JRH.
On Wednesday at 7.30pm we have our Church meeting. Anyone can join in but only members can vote. It’s a great opportunity to discover what has happened and what is being planned.
Thank you for praying for one another.
With my Christian greetings

Dear Christian friends,
PALM SUNDAY AND HOLY WEEK
We join with Christians of many denominations and all nations to focus our minds on the events which happened to Jesus during his “last week”
On Sunday it is Palm Sunday, the day Jesus reached Jerusalem, knowing that ahead of him was crucifixion. But that day was different. Yes a day of celebration for the disciples and the crowd that greeted him so enthusiastically, as they recalled the miracles he had done, or just joined in the fun! For Jesus it was much more, he was fulfilling prophecy and establishing that his rule was one of peace and love not hate and violence.
Jill is our preacher this Sunday and will help us explore
this. The link to her service is
Throughout the week, Jesus was teaching and preparing his disciples for his death. This reaches its climax on Friday.
On Good Friday at 10.30 – 11.30am
The church will be open for private prayer.
We will respond to Jesus request to ‘watch and pray with him’. This is a special time to deepen our relationship with Jesus. Come and go as you are able. We will be observing the necessary restrictions, including masks.
Please remember the vestibule and corridor are being decorated until Thursday. If you need to enter church premises, please remember to do this through the JRH door only.
Youth Alpha is taking a break – but still pray for God to work in these 20 or so young lives.
EASTER DAY – PLEASE COME TO CHURCH IF YOU CAN.

This week we are busy filming our Easter play, so we don’t have a Sunday school video to share with you, but I do have two videos you might like to watch if you have time.
The first is a video I made in preparation for a teams call with Caldecote school.
I was asked to talk for 10-15 minutes about how Christianity effects my day to day life. I enjoyed thinking about it and I thought I would ask you the same question, how does being a Christian effect your life?
Also Jessica was asked to make a short video for her school assembly this week, on what Easter means to her. This is Jessica’s response, what does Easter mean to you?

“The saints” – People with a divine purpose
Dear Christian friends,
The course of a pandemic, like ’true love’ never runs smooth!
Just as we were regaining confidence with the vaccine rollout going so well we hit two blips. Europe thinks it might be unsafe and the supply is being delayed. This might affect the ‘road map’! We need to pray for all involved.
But we also need to plan. So it is our intention to have Personal prayer in the church on GOOD FRIDAY from 10.30 – 11.30 am (with a Power Point to help us pray as we think about all that happened that day) and to have a live service in the church on EASTER DAY from 10.30 am – 11.45. This will include the Easter Story video which Maz and our children are creating (not to be missed!)
All this could change so please keep alert for updates but do plan to come. Please help us by telling your friends about this. It will be wonderful to celebrate Christ’s resurrection together.
In the meantime we are redecorating the entrance lobby and corridor. If you need to enter church premises, please remember to do this through the JRH door only.
The Youth Alpha continues to prosper with 17 attending this week. Please pray for Jess whose video on what Jesus means to her will be shown to the whole school next week.

Dear Christian friends,
Thank you to all those who attended our zoom AGM and also those who voted for our Treasurer and Church Secretary.
We are pleased to announce that Tony Richard (treasurer) and Kathryn Turner (Secretary) were elected with 100% of the poll.
We also presented Christine Cook with a garden token, card signed by the deacons and a painting of the church by Marianne Birtwistle. We all expressed our profound gratitude to Christine. Please feel free to tell her yourself, as well.
The transition from Christine to Kathryn will be gradual, so please send emails etc. to both for the time being.
The Youth Alpha continues to prosper with 19 attending this week. Thank you for your prayers and to the amazing team of Maz, Scott, Moji and Denise.

Join this at 10.30am on Sunday and stay on for the chat at 11am, or use the leaflet. We are hoping to record the zoom one and will let you know the You-Tube details later, if you prefer to ‘remember Jesus’ this way.

"THE SAINTS" - PEOPLE WITH A DEVINE PURPOSE.
Dear Christian friends,
I hope that like me you are looking forward to our Annual General Meeting. This will give us the opportunity to look back over the past year and reflect on all that God has been doing for us. We will, of course, take time to express our deep gratitude to God for his loving kindness during this harsh year.
We will also take the opportunity to say thank you to those who have been working so hard to keep us on track with God. We will announce the results of the election and look at some issues for the future. Everyone is welcome!
It may feel that it has been ‘Stay at home: Keep safe; Save the NHS’ all year and, important as this has been, we know that God has been active too. Please make joining us on Zoom a priority if you can, and if not cover our meeting with much prayer. Thank you.

Hi Everyone
Very sadly in the light of the growing impact of the Coronavirus the deacons have decided we must close the church COMPLETELY which means not only no worship service at 10am but also no individual prayer either. This complies with advice from the Baptist Union too.
We offer you the following to help you worship God and grow in your discipleship

“The saints - keep marching on and on!”
Dear Christian friends,
‘When can we re-open the church for worship?” This is a question on some people’s lips and many people’s minds. We listened to Boris on Monday and are not really any clearer. We are waiting for BUGB guidance and also for information from the Mayor’s office. The deacons will be meeting on Monday and will be considering all the available information and local guidance. So please pray for us. This is only one of several complex issues we need to know God’s will about.
What we do know is that we have a ‘Faithful God’. It will soon be a year since we first needed to close the church for worship. Whilst we didn’t know what lay ahead, we were needing to grapple with many unknown issues. Now we know that whatever was going to happen, God would be with us and enable us to stay together, find new ways to express our worship and grow in our discipleship. March 10th is our Annual General Meeting. We will review the ways God has led us and give him thanks. SO PLEASE PLAN TO JOIN US. EVERYONE IS INVITED TO ATTEND (you don’t need to be a member). It will, inevitably be a ‘Zoom’ meeting, but plan to be there so we can celebrate God’s provision. It will be from 7.30pm. The details for joining will be made available later.

Welcome to the resources for Sunday 28th February.
We are continuing our exploration of Jesus’ Temptations in Luke 4: 1 -13. This week our attention is on the second temptation – where Satan tempts Jesus to jump from the top of the temple.
It might seem ok; hasn’t God promised to take care of us when in danger? But Jesus sees what really lies behind this!
So please take a look at Derek’s Bible Study which has many helpful suggestions for us.

Dear Christian friends,
The Letter to the Hebrews tells us that we should keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. We will be doing that for the next couple of weeks as we consider Jesus’ Temptations, as recorded in Luke 4:1 - 13. Derek’s Bible Study provides a great introduction for us. It is also important to use the Bible Sheet I have prepared alongside the recorded service – they go together.
The link for the You Tube video is
We will also be keeping our ears open to hear what the Prime Minister has to say about any easing of restrictions which may mean we can start to plan to re-open the church for either Personal Prayer or worship together.
Now that most of our older members of the congregation and also those most vulnerable have been vaccinated, I hope once we can do so, we will return in good numbers so that we can plan for the minister with whom we have been in conversations to come and lead our worship in person. This is our next step in discerning together whether God is calling him to FLAB BC
Until then it is important that we do all we can to remain in fellowship with each other. The Sunday after church zoom chat is an important way of doing this. Everyone is invited to this at 11am.
Meeting ID and Passcode are on the news sheet.
With my Christian greetings

“The saints - keep marching on and on!”
Dear Christian friends,
Just before the Israelites left Egypt on their long march to freedom, God provided them with physical and spiritual nourishment in the Passover meal. Jesus did the same for his disciples as they faced the long journey through crucifixion and resurrection, in the Lord’s Supper. We still benefit from this to-day, as we seek to keep going.
This Sunday as well as my talk which is based on Ephesians 5: 25 -33, ‘Husbands love your wife just as Christ loves the church’, we are sharing in a communion service.
The link for the You Tube video is
You can join in the communion by simply using the leaflet attached with this week’s resources, or use the DVD/CD where it follows my talk, or better still join us on Sunday on Zoom at 10.30 am (the same details as for the 11am chat).
On the recorded version Tina is helping me and on Sunday’s live zoom it’s Christine. But the biggest help comes from you!
Please prepare and bring your bread and wine to this service.

“The saints - keep marching on!”
Dear Christian friends,
If an army marches on its stomach, then God’s people march on their worship and biblical engagement!
This Sunday Jill is leading our service and giving us the talk based on Philippians 4: 4 -20. This is a wonderful, positive passage and a real tonic for us in these long grey days of ‘lockdown’. So please do you best to benefit from it. One of the benefits of You-Tube or DVD’s is that we can watch and listen more than once.
We are also providing another Bible Study from Derek and I am offering a Prayer Power Point which engages with links to a verse in the passage. Through praying with Bible verses we enable the Holy Spirit to release the power of God’s word into our spiritual blood stream, to give us energy and to keep us healthy. Please use these resources.
The ‘icing on our cake’ is the opportunity to join in the zoom chat (it’s for all ages and is informal), and can really encourage us along. The Zoom meeting ID and Passcode are on the news sheet.
Next week it’s Valentine’s Day. One way we’ll make this special is to have another communion service.
With my prayers for you too,

“The saints go marching on…”
Dear Christian friends,
It is good to know that many of our older congregation have now had, or are soon to have, their first Covid - 19 vaccination. Please give God the thanks for this gift which benefits not only the individuals but people around them.
To help us keep ‘marching on’ following Jesus, make good use of Derek’s Bible Study, The ‘Praying with the Bible;’ Power Point which is much shorter this week (so give it a go, even if you don’t use it regularly) and of course our video service as we think more deeply about the love of Jesus shown in his sacrifice for us. This includes two powerful Christian songs.
But it’s easier to march when we do it together. So, please join in the zoom chat (it’s for all ages and is informal), and can really encourage us along. The Zoom information is on the news sheet.
If you, or anyone you know, would find it easier to use a DVD or CD to access our service, please let Christine Cook or myself know.
Please keep praying for one another.

HERE’S OUR GOOD NEWS
Dear Christian friends,
Last week I mentioned a couple of new ventures. I thought you would like to know how they went.
1) Last Sunday at 11am we re-instated coffee, biscuits and chat, as Martyn and Jill Willett hosted this on ZOOM. I think about 20 people of all ages turned up. We had a great time sharing our thoughts about Andy and his sermon and catching up with our news. Please give it a try if you can – you won’t regret it. The Zoom information, Meeting ID and Passcode, is on the news sheet.
2) We delivered about 15 DVD’s and CD’s of Andy’s service to those people who don’t have Wi-Fi. They have been receiving in printed form the resources most of us get by email from Dawn. Thank you for your prayers. Once people got their equipment working (!) they were greatly appreciated. This means another 15 plus people can now experience worship with us again. If you, or anyone you know, could benefit from this do let Christine Cook or myself know.
On Wednesday the deacons met and reviewed the many comments we have received from you. We were impressed by the perceptivity of your thoughts. Nearly everyone was positive about Andy as a person and his preaching. But several indicated they would value listening to him in person. So the deacons are asking Andy if he is willing to continue developing our relationship. If so we will plan for him to take a live service once we can do this with adequate numbers. Continue to pray for him and this process. We will keep you informed.
Finally I recommend you look at the attachment about a mindfulness course run by Sue Steer, a Baptist Minister working on the new Lubbesthorpe development.
With my prayers for you too, David Spriggs

Attached you will find some familiar things
The weekly News Sheet. PLEASE READ THIS VERY CAREFULLY – it has important information and provides a gateway to enable you to share in our life as fully as possible during lockdown.
The service explores further our motto text – Love one another as I have loved you – by thinking about loving through praying.
The You-Tube link is https://youtu.be/1kPMxySuduA
To get the full benefit of this service please have available (printed is probably best!) The Power Point – PRAYING WITH THE BIBLE
Derek’s Bible Study provides an excellent introduction to the key passage on which the talk and the Power Point are based - John 17: 1 – 23. The back page (produced by Pauline each week!) is a great way to use your hand to pray. So, every time you wash your hands, instead of counting to 20, why not spend that time praying, following the hints!
We pray that God will bring his love more fully into your life and through you his love to others.
David Spriggs
You are also invited to a Zoom chat after Sunday morning’s service at 11am on Sunday. Martyn and Jill Willett will host this. It is open to all, including children and families.

AND NOW FOR SOME GOOD NEWS
Dear Christian friends,
As we are constantly challenged by images of overstretched Covid-19 wards, and very sick patients, together with dire warnings and demands that we stick to the rules rigorously – and all very necessary I’m sure – it is clear to me that additional anxiety and darkness are troubling many people. So let me bring you some good news.
1) Beginning this Sunday at 11am onwards we are re-instating coffee, biscuits and chat. Not at church, of course, but in your own homes. Martyn and Jill Willett will be hosting this on ZOOM. It is for everyone and all ages and you can choose your own drinks and eats – although you will have to provide them yourself!!
The Zoom meeting ID and Passcode is on the emailed news sheet.
2) We are intending to deliver DVD’s or CD’s to those people who don’t have wifi – that is those who each week receive in printed form the resources most of us get by email from Dawn. So a big thank you to David Sibson for producing these discs and for our loyal team who take the materials to these people. Please pray for this new venture that it will help those who haven’t been to church for many months know they are still a vital part of our church.
3) We can all listen to Andy’s service on line. Many of you met Andy on Thursday and will be keen to hear him. We had hoped that he would preach in person, then that he would record in our church, but in the end we decided even that was too risky. So he agreed to do this from his home. We are most grateful to him.

A NOT SO HAPPY NEW YEAR – SO LET’S PRAY!
Dear Christian friends,
Unfortunately, week 2 of this New Year has not brought us much good news! The new lockdown, set in all probability to continue to the end of March, seems daunting and the threat of the NHS being overwhelmed is deeply unsettling.
So, let’s begin with the good news! I am beginning to discover some people have already had the vaccination and several others have been invited to go for theirs. So, in another 3 weeks there will be a growing number of people who have significant immunity.
Until then, as a church and Christian community, it is important that we play our part. The Deacons have therefore taken the difficult decision that our church will be closed not only for worship but also for individual prayer for 4 weeks. We will then review the situation with the hope of opening for Individual Prayer. The BUGB have now strongly affirmed this approach.
In the meantime, I encourage you to be patient and kind. Seek from God for new ways to fulfil Jesus command that ’we love one another’. Pray for those in authority and for all to respect the rules.
Pray for the NHS staff that God will give them’ new strength every day.
With my thanks to you all for your prayers and support
David Spriggs
Hi Everyone
Very sadly in the light of the growing impact of the Coronavirus the deacons have decided we must close the church COMPLETELY for the next 4 weeks at least which means not only no worship service at 10am but also no individual prayer either. This complies with advice from the Baptist Union too.
However, we can be together ‘in spirit and in truth’ as we share in a communion service which has been recorded. In this David explores our motto text to love one another as Jesus loves us, by looking at Jesus washing the disciples’ feet. This leads on into the communion itself. So please bring your own bread and wine to make full use of this. There is a leaflet to guide us through. You can also use this if you can’t see the recording.
Then we have a Bible Study by Derek Newbold and a Prayer Power Point both of which help us to engage with the passage in John’s Gospel 13:1 -17 more fully.
It is our prayer that these resources will help to nourish our faith at this testing time.
The You Tube link for the service is https://youtu.be/q-VzufgVEpk.
This also contains some worship songs.
Here is the communion service sheet.
Thank you for keeping involved with one another
A HAPPY NEW YEAR – LET’S PRAY SO!
Dear Christian friends,
We enter this New Year in Tier 4! Few of us regret leaving last year behind! But it has also been a year when we have experienced God’s provision and protection in so many ways. I invite you right now to pause and thank him for this.
We are all hoping that the vaccine will change everything and that within 6 months we will be able to function more fully as the church we know and love. BUT until this happens we have a job to do – we are still called to take the Gospel into all the world and that involves Braunstone and Braunstone Town!
Our text for the year is ‘This is my commandment that you love one another as I have loved you.’ But we can never forget the love Jesus has for us is the same love which he has for all the world! If we love his way we will give ourselves as he did – for the whole world. And that begins with praying for it.
PLEASE NOTE The length of the service is shorter to minimise any risks. If you prefer, just come for the personal prayer around 10.25 or stay for both. Heating will be left on throughout.
When you leave please do not talk in the church or outside. When you walk home ensure that no more than 2 people are together. Thank you.
With my thanks to you all for your prayers and support
David Spriggs
Hi Everyone
Arrangements for Sunday worship have been altered.
While we are permitted to be open for worship in Tier 4 just the same as we were in Tier 3, in recognition that there could be, or at least could be perceived to be, a greater risk now, we have reduced the length of time the service will take.
But in order to make it worthwhile for those who want a bit longer we have added a Power Point for Personal Prayer after the ‘formal’ service.
The details are in the news sheet above, but briefly,
Service 10 - 10:20.
Personal prayer 10:25 - 10:45.
We have also decided to postpone the re-opening of the family (messy church) style church in the JRH.
For those that cannot come, Derek has recorded his service in full. This is the link:
Wishing you all a very happy and healthy new year, and praying that it won't be long before we can all meet up without restrictions.
Thank you all for continuing to grow together in Jesus.
A NEW YEAR – WELL, ALMOST!
Dear Christian friends,
Many of us have faced disappointment over our Christmas arrangements because of the additional restrictions of those in Tier 4 and the truncation of the Christmas break from 5 days to just Christmas Day. But hopefully you have had some special times.
If you weren’t able to see the production of ‘It’s a Miracle’ either at our service last week or on line, then there are some DVD’s available. Please contact Marianne Birtwistle to arrange for this.
CHRISTMAS DAY 10 AM – Join us in the ‘Zoom Room’
There will be no service in the church on Christmas Day. Instead we will have an informal time of worship by ZOOM.
As well as your favourite Christmas present, please bring along your favourite Christmas verse from the Bible, or carol or poem to share with us. Feel free to wear your Christmas jumper or silly hat too!
When you leave please do not talk in the church or outside. When you walk home ensure that no more than 2 people are together. Thank you.
We encourage you to make a gift to BMS Disaster Recovery Fund for your Christmas Day gift – cheques to Tony Richard (Envelopes to Gift Aid your giving are available in church)

Lots of attachments for this week....
10:00am to 11:00am is our Nativity service.
The Power Point for ‘Individual Prayer 16 Advent 4' integrates with this to enhance our worship time.
The children's nativity play, organised and recorded by Marianne, is available to view on the link below.
This is a video on YouTube, but is 'Private' and can only be viewed with this link. It will be removed in one week.
Also today, nominally at 6:30pm, is our Carols by Candlelight service

CHRISTMAS IS COMING – BUT ARE YOU?
Dear Christian friends
As we re-open our church for services we do encourage all who can do so safely to make the effort to join us. While it is tempting to stay at home, and while we may bemoan the fact we can’t sing nor even talk on the premises (let alone have tea/coffee and mince-pies), everyone who makes the effort adds to the value of worshipping together for everyone else. But I also encourage you to come for your own sake. There is little doubt that those who come recognise the value of the opportunity to be together.
This Sunday we have some additional features, including promotional video for our on line Christingle service and a video report from the Duprees in Albania with many of their contacts saying thank you to us. In return we want to send them a video message with our Christmas greetings.
Maz and her team have now finished the recordings of 10 families who have put in a lot of time to make this a very special production. It will go live at our service next Sunday. This is not to be missed!
Plan now to ensure you can be there.
Service times -10.00 – 11.00 am
(Preceded by the Prayer Power point)
As you leave do not talk in the church or outside. When you walk home ensure that no more than 2 people are together. Thank you.
We will light the third candle in the Advent Wreath.
Alas, there is no POST BOX THIS YEAR. So send your Christmas Greetings (maximum of 20 words, please) to Dawn danddnorman@hotmail.com, and these will be compiled and sent with the weekly email for 20th December. If don’t have access to a computer please contact Jackie Moore who will collate your Christmas Greetings and pass them on to Dawn.

We encourage you to make a gift to BMS Disaster Recovery Fund – cheques to Tony Richard
With my thanks to you all for your prayers and support

KEEPING IN STEP
? Going Round in Circles?
Dear Christian friends,
We now know that we are in Tier 3 – both sides of the Braunstone Lane! On Wednesday, the deacons will decide whether we should open for worship instead of ‘Individual Prayer’ and whether the Church Meeting will be on Zoom or gathered in church. We will let you know in next week’s News Sheet so please look out for this.
THIS SUNDAY IT’S INDIVIDUAL PRAYER.
Do come if you can
10.00 – 11.00 am
The arrangements are the same.
As you leave do not talk in the church or outside. When you walk home ensure that no more than 2 people are together. Thank you.
This week’s sermon is provided by Tony Richards, who also lights the first candle in the Advent Wreath.
Please also make use of the ‘Individual Prayer’ Power Point attached to this email. It links with his talk on Gabriel visiting Zechariah, and is part of our worship time.
The EMBA are also offering a gathering for Advent Prayer each week day.
The details are on the attached poster. I encourage you to join in and so fellowship with others in the EMBA.
We will not be having our normal ‘Christmas card posting box’ in church.
Instead, send your Christmas Greetings (maximum of 20 words, please) to Dawn danddnorman@hotmail.com, and these will be compiled and sent with the weekly email for 20th December. If don’t have access to a computer please contact Jackie Moore who will collate your Christmas Greetings and pass them on to Dawn. We encourage you to make a gift to BMS World Relief Fund – more details next week!
With my thanks to you all

KEEPING IN STEP?
Hopscotch
Dear Christian friends,
Do you ever feel that life is rather like playing hopscotch – constantly jumping around on one leg– to avoid people as they walk towards you and to understand and apply all the ‘Government Rules’ –it’s ok to land on some squares but not all of them!
However, we are still planning to open our church for INDIVIDUAL PRAYER.
Do come if you can
This Sunday – November 22nd 2020
INDIVIDUAL PRAYER – 10.00 – 11.00 am
(Enter via the main entrance lobby into the church. Please wear a face covering, use the hand sanitiser and sit as directed)
People are not expected to stay for the whole hour! There will be a Power Point to help you pray. As you leave do not talk in the church or outside. When you walk home ensure that no more than 2 people are together. Thank you.
Thank you to all who took part in the EMBA day of prayer and fasting last Wednesday 15th November. The three ‘zoom’ sessions were led by 3 different ministers in very varied and creative ways. It was an excellent opportunity to be with people from across the Association. There were over 100 at the first session and probably over 80 at each of the others.
But thank you for those who joined in using the material we sent last week. We are grateful to our Regional Ministers for their support and leadership. We are grateful to you for your encouragement, involvement and support.

KEEPING IN STEP!
Dear Christian friends,
‘Thank God for new technology’. There have been many times when I have thought this and many times when lots of you have said this to me. There have also been times when it hasn’t worked well, or I’ve got in a mess with it, when I have thought otherwise! We probably all have a different list of what we consider ‘modern technology’ – TV, Smart TV, phone, smart phone, laptops, tablets, google, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Zoom, Cloud storage… I’ll leave the rest to those of you who watch ‘Click’!
It is great that we have been able to use this technology to serve God’s Kingdom purposes. It has helped us stay connected. But the jury is out as to whether anything is quite as good as face to face, and the ability to touch as well as see and hear!
In the meantime we are still planning to open our church for INDIVIDUAL PRAYER. But we are back to the normal time for this.
Do come if you can
This Sunday – November 15th 2020
INDIVIDUAL PRAYER – 10.00 – 11.00 am
(Enter via the main entrance lobby into the church. Please wear a face covering, use the hand sanitiser and sit as directed)
People are not expected to stay for the whole hour! There will be a Power Point to help you pray. As you leave do not talk in the church or outside. When you walk home ensure that no more than 2 people are together. Thank you.
I also want to encourage you to take part in the EMBA day of prayer and fasting on Wednesday 15th November. Please see the separate sheet on this and for those of you who wish to fast (or even think about it) there are additional resources.
David Spriggs
Hi Everyone
Here is David’s talk https://youtu.be/mMJIfo92LFc
The Bible Sheet provides supplementary information for the talk.
In place of the song choices we are including the Power Point for ‘Individual Prayer’ to enrich your worship experience. This links to the EMBA Day of Prayer and Fasting for this Wednesday – there is an attachment with details of this. There are also 2 leaflets which introduce the practice of fasting for those who wish to explore this further.
The shorter one is by Nick Swanson (1 NS) and a study guide by David Spriggs (2 DS). To print these, select ‘print both sides/flip along short edge’ and they should be set correctly. Nick’s is a 4 page A5 leaflet, David’s is an 8 page A5 booklet.
Here is the Individual Prayer power point:
Please feel free to choose your own songs/hymns on You Tube.
Thank you all for continuing to grow together in Jesus.
2 STEPS FORWARD ONE STEP BACK?
Dear Christian friends,
Perhaps you feel that I am being unrealistic. Have we not gone back to square 1? I believe not. We have learnt of the goodness of God in supporting and caring for us through many months of ‘lockdown’. Yes, it is very sad that we cannot worship together and certainly all our plans for REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY have to change. But we know if we pray, care for one another and live for God we can still flourish. I believe that you will continue steadfastly in the Lord.
So what is happening this Sunday? We are doing what we can which is to open for individual prayer and then engage with the national Remembrance Day events which can be followed on BBC 1 from 10.15 onwards on Sunday. Times will probably change for next Sunday.
This Sunday – November 8th 2020
INDIVIDUAL PRAYER – 9.00 – 9.45 am
(Enter via the main entrance lobby into the church. Please wear a face covering, use the hand sanitiser and sit as directed)
People are not expected to stay for the whole 45 minutes! There will be a Power Point to help you pray and this will relate to Remembrance Sunday. As you leave do not talk in the church or outside. When you walk home ensure that no more than 2 people are together. Thank you.
Please pray for us as we try to work out what is best for us all in the light of the current lockdown restrictions.
In Christian friendship,
David Spriggs
PS there are extra print and video resources to help us REMEMBER!
These can be used at any time but revolve around the 11am silence.
Hi Everyone
We are sorry that we have had to change our plans for this Sunday.
Please read the News Sheet carefully so you know what is happening. In addition to ‘Individual Prayer’ (i.e. people can come and go as they please and are not expected to stay for the 45 minutes) we are providing extra resources.
David has recorded a short ‘Act of Remembrance service’
– video link – https://youtu.be/wXjizJOQIvw
As well there is a talk recorded in the church
- video link - https://youtu.be/8CCb7DS7ay8
For those who cannot attend the ‘Individual prayer’ a Power Point is attached which may help you to pray at home, knowing that others are using these topics too.

MORE… NEXT STEPS
Dear Christian friends,
‘Welcome back’
Thank you to all who made my return to worship even better than I expected. It was great to see so many of you there and also several new families and individuals. I hear that there are some people who have been shielding etc. who now plan to join us this Sunday. I can assure you, that like me, you will be greeted with enthusiasm, and I think you’ll enjoy being ‘home’.
CHURCH ANNIVERSARY 1st November
This Sunday we celebrate our 369th birthday. Not our building! But the company of God’s people. In a way, not even that… we are celebrating God’s never failing goodness to us. And we are doing it ‘in style’. For the first time for many months we will celebrate ‘The Lord’s Supper’ together. Of course, it will be slightly different because of Corona Virus restrictions. We will be following Government guidelines to ensure it is safe.
Next Week – Remembrance Day Service – 10.45 am
A minutes silence at 11 is a bit tricky for us with our current service times. So ‘for one week only!’ We will all start BOTH services at 10.45am. If you are a family with children, we suggest you go to the JRH (our large hall). The whole service will be relayed there, so you won’t miss out. But after 11, there will be plenty of appropriate activities for the children too.
This Sunday Worship service 10 -10.45 am
(Enter via the main entrance lobby into the church. Please use the hand sanitiser and wear a face covering. When the church is full, then the JRH is set up for an overflow – with a comfortable chair!)
Junior Church 11.15 -12 noon
(Enter via the JRH from 11am onwards)
Please join us when you can. And add to the richness of our time together for all.
In Christian friendship,
David Spriggs

NEXT STEPS
Dear Christian friends,
I’m looking forward to re-joining you on Sunday morning so that we can worship God together. I am delighted to hear that you have had some excellent services while I have been away. I am very grateful to Christine, Marlene and Derek for their excellent contributions.
How are you?
Obviously I am also looking forward to discovering how you and your family and friends have been getting on. I am aware that some of you are going through challenging and draining times and I will be in touch with you as soon as I can next week.
Songs in worship
Many of you will be aware that we have stopped using YouTube songs to help our worship because of copyright and performance issues. We are exploring various alternatives and for now we are using material provided by isingworship. Please pray for David Sibson as he finds out how this resource can work best for us.
Just to remind you - this Sunday

EVERYONE COUNTS
Dear Christian friends,
Last Sunday was very special as we had 40 people in the first service and about 30 children and adults for the junior Church in the JRH afterwards. It is also good to learn that more people are planning to come back to our services. Everyone matters and everyone contributes to our sense of worship together. This week I will be interviewing Roger Whittacker about his ‘day job’. Roger is one of our great preaching team and he will be preaching next Sunday.
Giving
We are very grateful to all who have continued their giving to our church. Although we are not allowed to take up our offering in the normal way, people can place money in the box as they enter the church. So if you have been saving up for the last 6 months, maybe now is the time to bring in your gift. Alternatively you can send a cheque to our treasurer, Tony Richard at 104 Kingsway, Braunstone Town, LE3 3EH, 07701 019941

WHAT’S STOPPING YOU?
Dear Christian friends,
The latest Government announcement about the ‘Rule of 6’ might seem to imply that from Monday onwards we can’t hold our worship services again. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact ‘Boris’ specifically said
“Places of worship are NOT included in this limit of 6 people.”
We are able to welcome as many people as we can, following social distancing and all the other Covid-secure guidance.
We are however starting a new pattern for Sundays which requires those of us who come to the main (adult) service to arrive a little earlier. This is because we are now starting our children’s and young people’s Sunday work again. This is both a vital and exciting new step. So here is the programme.
Sunday 13th September
Worship service 10 -10.45 am
(Enter via the main entrance lobby into the church. When this is full, then the JRH is set up for an overflow – with a comfortable chair!)
Junior Church 11.15 -12 noon
(Enter via the JRH from 11am onwards)
So please join us, unless you have a reason not to do so.
Each one multiplies the value of our time together for all
In Christian friendship,
David Spriggs
Hi Everyone
This week, as we restart the children’s and young people’s Sunday ministry, the ‘Family Page’ on the Bible Sheet is changing.
The content will relate to their work and not the adult service talk. Please use this to stimulate your prayers. But you are free to enjoy it and benefit from it too! This page is also available in A4 format.

DO JOIN US
Dear Christian friends,
It was great to welcome even more people to our second Sunday morning service.
We heard Marlene’s story of her appointment as the Family Worker at Canley Community Church, Coventry and God’s remarkable provision of a fully furnished house for her to live in for the next few months. Maz and I (supported by everyone there) prayed for her and her new work for God.
And this Sunday?
This coming Sunday the pattern is the same
10 -10.30am - Personal Prayer
10.30 -11am - Sunday Worship together
Let me re-assure you- there is still plenty of room for YOU!
And when the church is full (with social distancing applied) the JRH is all set up for extra people – and there you get a comfortable seat!
We are growing in numbers and confidence in our worship, honouring God with the songs we share, our prayers, and growing in understanding the Bible’s message for our lives to-day. It is just a joy to see people and chat together afterwards – outside, of course! So, please come to God’s party if you are able.
From next Sunday onwards we expect that worship will be from 10 -10.45 am

WELCOME BACK!
Dear Christian friends,
It was great to welcome 27 people last Sunday to our first service of worship since 15th March
Everything worked very well – all the social distancing measures and Covid-secure practices enabled us to feel safe.
Everyone behaved very well!
And, as far as I can discern people felt the worship was worthwhile and the opportunity to talk outside afterwards helped us to feel life was beginning to return to normal. It is just a joy to see people and chat together (social distancing, of course). So why not come along
This coming Sunday the pattern is the same
From 10 -10.30am - Personal Prayer
From 10.30 -11am - Sunday Worship together
(The Parables of the lost coin and the lost sheep:
God’s surprising Kingdom -The cost to God)
We will also find out what Marlene Brooker is going to be doing next!
Do join us if it’s safe for you to do so, at 10.30am this Sunday. If you came last week and found it helpful, please encourage others.
As with the lost sheep, we are incomplete without you.
Please note that there won’t be any provision for separate children’s activities. This will need to wait until the children have re-started school (Please do pray for our children, parents and teachers). So our aim is to do this by 13th September. More details soon
In Christian friendship,

David’s Video Talk
Hello everyone,
Here are the resources for this weekend. I hope you enjoy exploring them, using them and sharing them with your friends and family. They focus on the Parables of the lost coin and the lost sheep. These highlight for us the depth and breadth of God’s love for everyone.
The video talk is
“The cost to God”
Luke 15: 1 – 10
The song choice is

Thank you for your faithfulness to God and commitment to our church.

COME BACK!
Dear Christian friends,
YES, Friar Lane and Braunstone Baptist Church is on the way back, as we take another significant step towards ‘normality’. This Sunday we are re-opening for a time of worship together.
From 10 -10.30am - Personal Prayer
From 10.30 -11am - Sunday Worship together
So our appeal to you is, if you possibly can, and if it’s safe for you to do so, please join us at 10.30am on Sunday 23rd August.
We can’t make a come-back without YOU
Please note that there won’t be any provision for separate children’s activities. This will need to wait until the children have re-started school. So our aim is to do this by 13th September. More details soon
Because we are complying with all the government guidance (to ensure we have a safe environment for everyone)
Please read the notices and comply with them
Please sanitise your hands as you enter, and sit where it indicates it is safe to do so.
Please wear some kind of face-covering unless you have a medical reason for not doing so.
We can’t wait to welcome you back
Equally we want to welcome new people
That’s why we are getting ready to run the on line Alpha course which Jill and Martyn will be running in September. So keep on praying and be prepared to invite your friends and family to join it in a couple of weeks’ time. God wants to welcome everyone back!
In Christian friendship,

Dear Christian Friends
Buried Treasure – Holiday Bible Club? But have you found it yet?
OK the secrets out now! We all know where the treasure is…
On Monday over 90 Boxes full of treasure were handed to families and all through this week children and parents have been busy making bread, producing ‘Pirate wear’ and many other things.
The children have also been very busy showing us just how much they have enjoyed this week’s activities.
Please go to our website - Find ‘Menu’ and click ‘Bible Club’. Then open each day’s section, scroll down and you’ll see some wonderful pictures. Some children you’ll recognise and some you won’t. They seem to have found their treasure – and this archive becomes our treasure too.
It has been a lot of fun. Amy and Barbara assisted by Maz and Jess have introduced each day’s topics and the normal HBC songs are there to enjoy as well. Each day there has also been a Bible story told in cartoon form. Let’s not forget what it’s really all about – helping people young and old discover Jesus. You can also enjoy sharing in some of their fun with our on line video

Each HBC pack also contained an invitation to sign up for the on line Alpha course which Jill and Martyn will be running in September. Now we need to pray that children and families will discover the real treasure for themselves.
This Sunday we are again opening the church (and the Wednesday following) for Private Prayer only 10 – 11am. Please come along if you can. It is a wonderful thing to do! Of course we can pray ‘just as well in or own homes or walking in the park’ BUT there is still something special about being in the church which holds so many memories and rich experiences for us and being with some of the people who have helped us along on our Christian journey.
Please be prepared to use hand sanitiser, wear a mask
and have your attendance noted.
But please do come, it will help us all get ready for a return to corporate worship. Afterwards, loiter in the new prayer garden!

Dear Christian Friends
IT’S COMING ALONG…..
At last… we can start to reopen the church not only for Private Prayer but also for Public Worship.
We intend to do this in easy steps. For the first 2 Sundays (and Wednesday 19th August following) we will open the Church for Private Prayer only.
We have found that this is a good way to encourage people to return into the church building and to discover, firstly that it is really a safe place with all the Covid 19 measures in place. Then secondly that it is a wonderful thing to do! Of course we can pray ‘just as well in or own homes or walking in the park’ BUT there is still something special about being in the church which holds so many memories and rich experiences for us and being with some of the people who have helped us along on our Christian journey.
Please be prepared to use hand sanitiser, wear a mask and have your attendance noted.
But please do come, it will help us all get ready for a return to corporate worship. Then loiter in the new prayer garden! Time, 10.00am to 11.00am.
IT’S COMING ALONG…..
Our very own Virtual Holiday Bible Club starts on Monday
Thanks to the vision and energy of Maz, Amy, Barbara and Jessica, plus many other volunteers we have our own unique videos (one for each day) plus Scripture Union videos available via the web-site.
On Monday we expect lots of families to collect their activity pack for the week. All of this relates to the Landlubbers HBC.
Then we have a treat for everyone, as our video for next Sunday will contain songs and photos and videos of some of the things the children have been involved in plus a short talk from me on ‘buried treasure’.
IT’S COMING ALONG…..
This week we start a new series on ‘Surprizes in God’s kingdom’
The topic is ‘The Small Stuff’ and the link is

IT’S COMING ALONG…..
Soon we will be running our own online Alpha course, starting in September. This is thanks to Jill and Martyn Willett, so watch out. They will need lots of people to help them and all of us to pray. So start now, please! Continue to pray for your family and neighbours so they will be ready to meet with Jesus through Alpha.

Dear Christian Friends
And now for the good news!!
This week’s video talk focuses on God’s new Normal of FREEDOM!
At the moment we can spend a lot of time trying to work out what we are and are not free to do!
Many people eagerly booked and set off on their summer holidays, as they felt they were now free to travel (even though they would have to wear masks!). They needed a change of scenery and the stimulation which they expected that would bring them. Then, with little warning, they were told when they came back they would lose many of the freedoms they were getting used to – going out, meeting up with friends, even going to work – because they had to quarantine for 14 days on their return from Spain.
We notice when we lose our freedoms. But we also notice when we are given them back. Jesus came to give us back our full humanity. To set us free from the many layers of restrictions that Satan has imposed on us. At the heart of this is our freedom to know and belong to God, and also to be set free from self-centredness. That is why Jesus died and rose again. But we need to grow into our Christian freedoms and that isn’t always easy. It’s a bit like playing snakes and ladders! This week’s video explores this gift of Freedom
Video - Exploring freedom https://youtu.be/4X2cMUwTXF8
FREEDOM FOR THE GOSPEL
One way Paul talks about freedom is to liken it to an open door through which he can go. Today we can rejoice with Marlene Brooker that God has opened a door for her. We congratulate her on her appointment as the Community Worker (part time) at Canley Community Church in Coventry. We are sorry that this means we will see less of her but praise God for setting her free to use her gifts in this new context. She expects to start sometime in September.
FREEDEOM TO REOPEN OUR CHURCH?
As of Friday morning, it seems that we will now be able to start the process of re-opening our church. First for private prayer then for gathered worship. The deacons will discuss this on Monday. So please watch out for further information.
AND PRAY FOR HELPFUL DECISIONS AND A GOOD RESPONSE.

And can it be
Dear Christian Friends
Is the church divided?
We have all played our part in keeping the church together as we have prayed for one another, kept in touch with one another by emails, texts, phone calls and conversations in gardens and at doors.
Now we find ourselves as a community that is divided!
One half is ‘out of lockdown’ those who live in Braunstone Town, Leicester Forest East, Thorpe Astley, Kirby Muxloe, etc. While those living within the City boundaries remain ‘locked down’.
One way this impacts us is that while we could, in theory, re-open the church for private prayer, most of those who would do the opening and supervise attendance live outside the lockdown area and so cannot go to the church!
Some can go away on their long awaited holidays and others cannot travel outside the city limits and should stay at home apart from exercise and essential shopping.
SO – is the church divided?
Maybe by government decrees but not, I believe, in deeper ways. However, I would encourage you to ‘bear one another’s burdens’. Be intentional in doing all you can to legally ‘cross the divide’. Please remember in your prayers those who are in a different ‘lockdown’ regime to yourselves. And if you can, find other ways to show your commitment to each other.
LOVE REALLY MATTERS
When the church is threatened by divisions, however they come about, focusing on and showing love to one another is crucially important. So it was that Jesus, knowing that his disciples would soon be scattered, shows then what love means and encourages them to follow his example. That is why Paul, in his letter to the Ephesians, where he appeals for unity, also emphasizes the deep and wide significance of love. This is why it is so appropriate that this week, as we think together about God’s New Normal, we focus on the value of Christian love. So I commend wholeheartedly to you our Bible Sheet and Bible Study (by Derek), together with our video talk and the songs.
Here is the link for the talk.
But don’t let our love be only a matter of words!

Dear Christian Friends
This Sunday I am inviting you to take part in our communion service.
It will start on ZOOM at 10am, so please join around 9.50am so we can all be ready to start on time. Towards the end of the service we will have a short time in breakout groups so we can chat to a few people, as we would do at the end of our service in church.
Some of you won’t be able to join on ZOOM, but we intend to record the service and make it available via You Tube as soon as possible – so look out for the link which will be emailed to you as soon as we can.
Others won’t be able to do this, but we still invite you to be part of our shared communion experience. You can do this through the Communion Leaflet and also use the Bible Sheet I have prepared on Psalm 42. The Psalmist is ‘locked down’ and missing his normal worship. So he expresses his deep longing for God. To go with this there is a video talk which you can watch whenever you like.
As you will now be aware, the general lockdown for most of Leicester remains much the same. This is a great disappointment to many for all kinds of reasons. As far as I know, this means that we are still prohibited from opening our church for Private Prayer. This makes the new ‘Prayer Garden’ even more important and significant. If you are in the vicinity of the church and can legitimately spend a few minutes exploring it and praying in it please do so. The more of us who spend time there, the more it will also encourage all kinds of people in our community to pause for quiet, reflection and meditation. My prayer for this special space is that, as with Mary in the garden tomb on the resurrection morning, some will hear Jesus call them by name and discover there is a risen Saviour who cares about them.
I also encourage you to pray for one another and, however you can, support each other through this draining time. Every life matters to God and I know we all matter to each other. Thank you for all you are doing.

Dear Christian Friends
I know how hard the return to a more stringent lockdown has impacted many of you. While some are quite stoical and resigned, and others recognize that it is a necessary measure to protect people’s health and life, many of us are finding it depressing and draining.
All of these responses are understandable. So please go on phoning and keeping in touch with each other. Please avoid judging others if their response is different to yours. And if you are able pray for one another over the phone or on the door step. If you are uncomfortable with these approaches, then I encourage you to pray when you are home again.
It is equally important and significant that we pray for our neighbours, friends and family. They too will experience the same range of responses, but without the potent resources we have in God. So let’s seek to help them and if possible, offer to pray for them.
This brings me to the topic for our service this weekend.
How we can overflow with hope!
This is the second in our series on ‘God’s New Normal’
As Christians we inhabit a different world because the life, death and resurrection of Jesus have changed everything and we are called to behave differently. Here’s the video link for you.
Overflowing with hope
In case you weren’t at the Zoom Church meeting, let me mention 2 other significant developments which are underway. First Maz is working on providing a ‘Prayer Garden’, a special part of our grounds which will be open to the community all the time for quiet, reflection and meditation. There will be various ‘artefacts’ to help people along. Secondly Jill and Martyn are planning to run an Alpha course on line. This will start early September. They will need help. But for now keep praying for your contacts and share your story as God’s Harvesters.

Dear Christian Friends
Will he? Won’t he?
Well our Prime Minister DID.
Then he changed his mind about Leicester plus so we are back to full lockdown.
Like you, I’m sure, I find this very sad but try and consider that it is all being done to keep us as safe as possible. So this means not only that we cannot open for worship but neither can we open for private, personal prayer.
Please however, do not let this stop you praying, or indeed, worshipping God. Let us pray for ourselves and our communities that we may have the composure and perseverance to continue to bear a good witness for Jesus
We are not restricted to buildings; we have open access to God through Jesus at any time and in any place. We are assured that with God we will find grace and mercy to help us in our time of need.
And so to the future!
The potential minister is still content to wait until we can return to something like our normal services and meet him and his wife.
So please thank God for his helpful attitude. It will, inevitably be several weeks before we can re-arrange the ‘View Preach’.
As for the more immediate future – our worship this weekend –
I am starting a short series about ‘The New Normal’ not the one we are heading for as lockdown eases, but the one we are already living in.
‘God’s New Normal’
As Christians we inhabit a different world because the life, death and resurrection of Jesus have changed everything and we are called to behave differently. We begin with how we can live ‘Beyond Anxiety’. Please pray that this will be helpful to many in our fellowship but also way beyond. Many of us are now struggling with the atmosphere of anxiety and it affects us all. But we can be different with God’s help.

Dear Christian Friends
Will he? Won’t he?
Well our Prime Minister DID. He said we can open our churches for worship after 4th July!
Will we? Won’t we?
The Deacons will decide at our meeting on Wednesday when we will open for worship.
The church is Covid-secure-ready and risk assessments are in place. So you can have confidence to return as soon as you are allowed by the Government and feel ready to come back – once we are open.
Until then you can come for private, personal prayer.
This Sunday and Wednesday at 10.30 - 11.30am.
Those who came last week found it moving and helpful to be there. It will be great if you can come (or come again!) and pray and help prepare our church and yourselves for the next phase of our life together.
Do come if you can.

We owe Jill grateful thanks; the best way to show this is to really get involved with her videos and leaflets (you can watch them again!)
Then Saturday is our prayer day.
Prayer is a key way in which we express the truth that our faith is in God and not ourselves. More details are in the Prayer Day leaflet. Don’t forget to let me know if you have a prayer garden party or phone a friend for prayer.
So there is a lot to be excited about and we are thankful to God for his leading.
Thank you for being part of our church’s life

Dear Christian Friends
Welcome to week 14 of our lockdown news sheet!
It’s a very special week! Why?
Because we have been taping off alternate pews, marking 2 metres on the floor and putting up ‘social distancing signs’.
YES – things are beginning to move.
So this week you are welcome to come to FLAB BC for private, personal prayer. This starts on Sunday at 10.30 -11.30am.
Of course you can come and go as you please. It’s not an hour’s service!!! It will be great if you can come and pray and prepare our church for the next phase of our life together.
Do come if you can.
But it is equally important that we prepare ourselves to be God’s witnesses. So please avail yourself of Jill’s video and or sheet.
Week 3 of God’s Harvesters course.
We want to be ready to share something of our faith with those who may just now be starting on a journey to discover Jesus.
This week is about seeing what God’s story is (week 1 was other people’s story – listening and praying; week 2 was seeing how our story can help).
My short video supports Jill’s focus. Paul’s talk to the people of Athens provides helpful clues for our context. The Bible Study by Derek adds to this. The video links are

Dear Christian Friends
Welcome to week 13 of our lockdown news sheet!
We have all had many different experiences and are getting used to many new aspects of our present situation. We have learnt of friends and colleagues who have been ill with Covid 19, and some of us unfortunately, have experienced bereavement.
This makes us all think differently about life. The same is true for many of our family members and neighbours, who may not be Christians. That’s why Jill’s course is such a gift to us.
If you haven’t looked at last week’s material, please do so and also ensure that you make the best possible use both of the video, if you can, and of Jill’s Leaflet for week 2 of God’s Harvesters. This is God’s provision to help us to be prepared to share something of our faith to those who may just now be starting on a journey to discover Jesus. This will help us to help others discover Jesus.
This week is about seeing how our experience of Jesus can be helpful to others. We may feel it’s not dramatic like Paul’s conversion, but we have something unique that can help others – it’s our witness.
Also listen to the YouTube songs.
These two old favourites are telling the authors’ stories of what they have discovered about Jesus in their lives.
My short video supports this. We explore the experience of the man who was blind. You can read the story in John chapter 9. The Bible sheet delves into this too

Dear Christian Friends
Pentecost got people talking! This provided the apostles and the other 100 plus disciples with opportunities to share their faith with a new found confidence. They were empowered by the Holy Spirit. We recognise that we are likely to have more opportunities to share our faith with all the issues that the pandemic has raised for people, as they have sensed their own vulnerability, been immersed in suffering, coped with anxiety or experienced kindness and the beauty of nature with a new intensity.
We too have God’s Spirit to help us.
That’s why we are starting this short course, prepared by Jill Willett, especially for us. Over the next 4 weeks there will be a video and a Work Sheet to help us help others discover Jesus.
It is called God’s Harvesters and it starts NOW.
Each week I will offer some biblical reflections on a short video to support this. Alternate weeks there will be either a Bible Study (from Derek) or a Bible Sheet (from me).
This week is our Zoom Communion service at 10 am on Sunday. Many people joined this and found it very helpful, even moving, last month. So please do join us if you have zoom, or be involved by using the Communion Sheet which is attached to the email or watch the Zoom Communion which will be available as a video as soon as we can upload it and get the link to you. Through communion we also are ‘Proclaiming Jesus’, to ourselves; it can deepen our faith and give us confidence, as will the course. But we are also proclaiming our faith to God and other people.
I’m really excited by this new venture. But it will be far more effective if YOU get fully involved. This is to help us ‘Share Jesus’ as our mission statement commits us to do.
Thank you for moving forward together.

Dear Christian Friends
This Sunday it is Pentecost. The special Sunday when we remember that the promise of Jesus to send the Holy Spirit, his ‘alter ego’, was fulfilled. Acts chapter 2 tells us of this momentous day. Some call it the ‘Birthday of the church’; I see it as the church launched into mission. A mission we are still continuing. To bring the Good News of God’s redemptive love to every corner of the world. Our two videos reflect this.

I hope you have managed to get a poster and put it in your window. I hope too you get a chance to see the impressive matching display that Maz has created all around the church.
It is our prayer that these posters will encourage people who call on us or pass down our street, to ask us about Jesus or share their growing search for answers for their own lives.
Many of us recognise we could do with some encouragement to be ready for these opportunities.
So, Jill Willett is working hard to provide us with a 4 week video/worksheet course to help us be prepared to help others discover Jesus. Remember our Mission Statement?
Jill’s course will start next weekend.
It is called God’s Harvesters.
Please start to pray for your friends and family and yourselves so we can ‘share Jesus’.

Roger Whittacker has agreed to provide us with our spiritual input.
We always look forward to Roger’s insightful and interesting sermons, so I thought it was time we had the benefit of listening to him and seeing him during this continuing enforced absence from our church services. His theme is ‘A substitute’

I’m also very excited by a new venture which will start for Sunday June 7th. We are all aware that the last few weeks have prompted many people beyond our churches to think again about life and death issues and to visit church services on line and via videos. The fields are white – ready for harvest. So Jill Willett is going to help us become God’s harvesters. Over 4 weeks she will provide a weekly video to help us become more confident and more competent to help people who know us and want to know more about Jesus. There will be a Witness Sheet, each week to help us gain even more from this series. So please start to pray for your friends and family and yourselves. Remember our motto for the year!

Dear Christian Friends
This Sunday we return to one of the amazing stories of the disciples meeting Jesus after his resurrection. It is found in John 21: 1 -22. Unlike the earlier encounters this took place by the Sea of Galilee and presumably sometime later. At the centre of it is Peter and the renewal of his call to follow Jesus.
Video 1 looks at what you do ‘With Time on your hands’
Video 2 focuses on ‘A Question to Consider’.
But this week I also want to focus your attention on Christian Aid. Christian Aid is the churches’ global development fund. This vital charity, caring for and enabling the world’s poorest people, faces a double problem. Their house to house collection can’t take place nor community fund raising events. Hence their income will drop significantly. The second is that in addition to their planned appeal for Kenyans coping with a severe drought they need to help peoples in desperate need who now face Corona Virus in many countries of the world. So I appeal to you to give sacrificially to Christian Aid, even if you don’t normally do so. If you give already, please consider doubling your normal gift (and Gift Aid it if possible).
The most effective way is to do so on-line (see their web site) OR send a cheque to Christian Aid via the local treasurer. If you do this please put FLAB BC on the back of the cheque. Send it to

Service for Sunday 10th May 2020 by Rev David Spriggs.
This week our nation, and maybe your street, is coming up with imaginative ways to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of VE DAY.
It is sad that we have not been able to have the great national events which had been planned, but the Queen, at least, will address the nation on Friday at 7pm. We value her message too us.
Even more so we value God’s message of victory to us. That’s why Paul says,
‘Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.’ (1 Corinthians 15: 57)
This victory was announced to Christians by God through the resurrection of Jesus, but is being given to us every day we live and one day will be proclaimed to the whole cosmos as God completes his purpose to restore all things to himself.
We will explore this verse in the first of our videos
Part 1 - https://youtu.be/KKQWavegNNg
But this is no time to sit back and take our ease! And I’m not saying this because of Corona Virus and the lockdown! Rather because God’s victorious purpose includes us. So in the next verse Paul tells us we should stand our ground and overflow with doing good things in every part of our lives to honour God. We can do this because nothing we do will be wasted. God will use everything from the smallest prayer and the washing up to martyrdom, to build his kingdom.
Our second video focuses on this challenge
Part 2 - https://youtu.be/6LHc8ON6GzE
This week I want to offer you a different opportunity to chat to me and also be in touch with others. On Tuesday May 12th from 7 – 8 pm we will hold a ‘Zoom Chat Time’. This will give us an opportunity to say ‘Hi’ to one another but also to share news and ideas you may have. If time permits we can also pray for one another. Dawn will send out the link on Monday evening – so please join me if you can and see who else turns up!
